Why do astronauts float if gravity still pulls them?

What you’ll see

Fire a cannonball from a mountain top and it falls back to the ground. Fire faster and it lands further away. At about eight kilometres a second the ground curves away as fast as the ball falls, and it never lands. That's an orbit. Astronauts float because they are falling too, all the way around.
