Plants · Keeping a plant alive
How do you keep a houseplant alive?
What you’ll see
Most houseplants don't die of thirst. They drown. Roots need air as much as water: in soil that stays soggy, they suffocate and rot. The recipe is simple. Water deeply, then wait until the top few centimetres are dry. Give the pot a hole to drain. Put the plant near bright light, and let the leaves tell you the rest.
