Psychology · The forgetting curve
How do you stop forgetting what you learn?
What you’ll see
In 1885, Hermann Ebbinghaus memorised lists of nonsense syllables and timed how fast he forgot them. The curve drops steeply: within a day, more than half is gone. But each time you review, just as it starts to fade, the curve falls more slowly. Spread your reviews out, a day, then three, then a week, and memories last for years.
